Redefining the Bathroom

We all get a little tired of how our bathroom looks, but the truth is, redefining the bathroom is easier than most people think. Start with a fresh coat of paint. Paint is inexpensive and can add a splash of cover or revive the look of the bathroom. Make sure to get some painters tape as well to avoid those ugly splotches and marks on the countertops and bath tile. Next, address the towels. A new set of organic towels to complement the new coat of paint can go a long way. Choose a color that either provides contrast or blends with the paint. Next address the knobs on the cabinets. Some new cabinet pulls and knobs can go a long way towards redefining the look of the bathroom. For people who have a little bit more money on hand, see about addressing the lighting. A new lighting fixture will change the lighting scheme and the aesthetic of the bathroom.

With these steps, just about anyone can have a redefined bathroom with just a couple hundred dollars, or even less for people who are thrifty.

What’s Against Your Skin?

In the past decade, the rise of information about the benefits of organic food has driven many people to begin buying organic products for their homes. The farmers that dedicate themselves to producing organic crops are very serious about being fair to the environment and people. Reports show that cotton crops are the second largest user of pesticides in the world. That means 25% of the world’s insecticides and 10% of the world’s pesticides are dedicated to cotton. Four of the top nine pesticides used in treating cotton are considered by the EPA to be highly carcinogenic. These chemicals include cyanide, dicofol, naled, and propargite.

When crops are sprayed with these chemicals, it is estimated that only about 25% of the chemicals are absorbed into the crops, the rest end up drifting and settling miles away on other crops that are intended for human consumption. To make a long story short, buying organic cotton products like organic cotton towels, T-shirts and baby clothing, supports organic farming methods, which in the long run decreases the use of harmful chemicals and the pollution they cause.

Organically-made items spread not only to food but to clothing and fabrics as well. There are organic pants, organic t-shirts, organic sleepwear, even an organic towel. Yes, an organic towel. It can be made from two materials that can be grown without having to use pesticides and other harmful chemicals: cotton and bamboo.

While cotton is already the most popular material from which towels are made of, bamboo seems to be a surprise. And people would be surprised indeed to find out that bamboo towels are just as soft and fluffy. They are also naturally antibacterial, anti-fungal, and biodegradable. They dry faster than cotton and never need fabric softeners during laundry, as they stay soft on their own.
